About the awards

The ICSW Awards recognise excellence in the provision of welfare facilities and services for seafarers. By raising awareness of best practice we hope to encourage improvement in existing welfare provision and to promote the establishment of new services, facilities, and structures.

The 2010 award winners came from around the world.

There are awards for the best shipping company, port and seafarer centre and a special Welfare Personality of the Year award goes to an organisation or individual who has made an outstanding contribution.

Winners will receive an all expenses paid trip to Geneva to receive their award at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on the opening night of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) tripartite meeting on 12 December 2011.

Eligibility

Shipping companies, ports and seafarer centres must be nominated by seafarers before they can submit an entry. Please help encourage nominations by downloading the posters and advertising the awards in and around your premises and through your contact with seafarers. When you have received a nomination you will receive an email inviting you to apply.

Judging

The awards will be judged by a prestigious panel from the maritime industry, including the President of the International Shipping Federation, Mr Spyros Polemis, and the General Secretary of the International Transport workers Federation, Mr David Cockcroft. Judging will take place in October and the winners will be notified by early November 2011.

Support

The awards have been generously funded from a grant from the International Transport Workers Federation Seafarers’ Trust. The awards are supported by several of the leading international organisations in the maritime industry, including the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the International Shipping Federation (ISF), the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and the International Christian Maritime Association.
