The International Seafarers' Welfare Awards give seafarers the chance to say thank you to companies and organisations who have offered them high quality welfare services and facilities.
By raising awareness of best practice, ISWAN hopes to encourage improvements in existing welfare provision and promote new services and facilities for seafarers around the world. This is part of ISWAN's on-going work to promote implementation of the International Labour Organization's Maritime Labour Convention (MLC, 2006), which includes welfare obligations and recommendations.
The 2018 International Seafarers' Welfare Awards ceremony will go ahead at the International Labour Organization in Geneva on 23rd April, where the winners will be announced.
ISWAN promotes seafarers' welfare and directly serves seafarers by providing a 24-hour, multi-lingual helpline. In addition to promoting implementation of the MLC, 2006, ISWAN works in collaboration with companies, unions, governments and welfare organisations. Together they run projects which enable the establishment of welfare services and facilities on board ship and in ports. ISWAN is a membership organisation. The International Chamber of Shipping, International Transport Workers' Federation, and the International Christian Maritime Association are the core members.
